Turkey Introduces Vocational Secondary Schools in Four Provinces

The Ministry of National Education has taken a significant step in promoting vocational education by introducing a new program called the “Skill Development Program” during this summer holiday. As part of this program, secondary school students have been given the opportunity to attend “craft workshops” in vocational high schools for the first time.

These craft workshops, which are free of charge and open to 7th-grade secondary school students, offer training in 129 modules across 271 schools in 18 provinces. The aim is to raise awareness about vocational education among secondary school students and provide them and their parents with more information about different professions to assist in their post-secondary education planning process.

To further enhance vocational education, new “vocational middle schools” will be established within existing vocational and technical Anatolian high schools in Bursa, Sivas, Konya, and Burdur. These schools will accept students from middle school for the first time in Turkey and aim to identify students’ skills and talents early on to provide them with a suitable education process.

The vocational secondary schools set to open in Bursa, Sivas, Konya, and Burdur include Hacı Sevim Yıldız-2 Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School Middle School, Sivas Information Technologies Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School Secondary School, Gazi Girls Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School Secondary School, and Emekevler Şehit Rıza Çevik Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School Secondary School.

This initiative is a crucial step in promoting vocational education and helping students discover and develop their skills and talents from an early age. It is expected to have a positive impact on the education system in Turkey and provide students with more opportunities for personal and professional growth in the future.
