Turkey Joins the European Sky Shield Initiative to Support Ukraine
In a move of support for Ukraine, Turkey has joined the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI). This announcement came as Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler attended the NATO Defense Ministers Meeting in Brussels. The “Regulation Document Signing Ceremony Concerning the Participation of Turkey and Greece in the Letter of Intent of the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI)” was held at the Permanent Representation of Germany to NATO, with Minister Yaşar Güler signing the agreement alongside Greek Minister of Defense Nikolaos Dendias.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister Yaşar Güler emphasized the importance of this initiative in meeting NATO’s requirements and ensuring the interoperability and integration of allies. He expressed Turkey’s readiness to contribute to the initiative with its national resources and extended gratitude to Germany for its coordinating role.
Following the signing ceremony, Minister Yaşar Güler had a brief meeting with Greek Minister of Defense Nikolaos Dendias and attended the second session at NATO Headquarters, where he engaged with Defense Ministers from other allied countries such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Bulgaria.
Turkey’s participation in the European Sky Shield Initiative and its commitment to supporting Ukraine through this collaboration reflects its dedication to collective defense and strengthening international partnerships.
As Turkey and Greece join Germany’s missile defense program, it marks a significant step in enhancing regional security and reinforcing defense cooperation among NATO allies.
