Turkey Ranks Among Top 10 Seed Producing Countries Worldwide

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı continues to promote seed projects across Turkey. In a recent speech at the seed and greenhouse cover nylon distribution ceremony in Çanakkale, Yumaklı emphasized the importance of utilizing agricultural lands effectively, in line with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s vision of cultivating every inch of land in the country.

Contrary to popular belief, Yumaklı clarified that Turkey is not dependent on foreign sources for seeds, as it is one of the top 10 seed producing countries in the world. With an emphasis on certified seeds, the Minister highlighted the ongoing efforts to ensure high-quality and productive agricultural products.

In Çanakkale, 17 companies and 1033 growers are producing certified seeds, including corn, wheat, barley, paddy, triticale, and oats. The distribution of seeds, supported by grants ranging from 50-75 percent, aims to empower farmers and enhance agricultural productivity across the country.

Minister Yumaklı also addressed environmental initiatives, such as the proper disposal of pesticide waste packaging, to prevent harmful effects on the environment. Additionally, he highlighted ongoing developments in reclamation projects, such as the rehabilitation of Sarıçay Stream, which will create recreational areas for the people of Çanakkale to enjoy.

The Minister’s visit to various agricultural institutions and meetings with stakeholders reflect the government’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and the promotion of local seed production. As Turkey aims to increase agricultural exports and production, initiatives like the TAKE Project play a crucial role in supporting farmers and ensuring food security in the country.
