Turkey to Increase Gas Supply to Europe, Minister Bayraktar Reveals
Minister Bayraktar announced that Türkiye can supply more gas to Europe
Minister Bayraktar made important statements to the Japanese Nikkei Newspaper regarding the energy infrastructure in Europe and the reconstruction of Syria. He emphasized that Turkey is ready to contribute more to Europe’s energy security and supply.
Bayraktar stated that if Europe shows political will and commitment, and investment is made in interconnection, up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas can be exported annually to Central and Eastern Europe via the Balkan Pipeline. This would greatly enhance Europe’s energy supply security.
Furthermore, Bayraktar highlighted the need for international assistance in the reconstruction of Syria’s energy infrastructure. He mentioned that investments are needed to improve the energy infrastructure in Syria, and Turkey is ready to provide support in supplying electricity to cities like Aleppo and Afrin.
Bayraktar also mentioned the possibility of building a natural gas pipeline from Turkey to Syria and using floating electricity generation plants to supply energy if needed. He called on the international community to help in the reconstruction of Syria and to end sanctions against Damascus.
In addition, Bayraktar discussed the potential of reviving a natural gas pipeline project from Qatar to Turkey via Syria. He emphasized the importance of diversity in energy sources and mentioned that Qatari gas could reach Europe through swap agreements using Turkey’s existing pipeline infrastructure.
Overall, Minister Bayraktar’s statements highlight Türkiye’s willingness to play a significant role in enhancing Europe’s energy security and contributing to the reconstruction of Syria’s energy infrastructure. The international community’s support is crucial in achieving these goals and ensuring stability in the region.
