Turkey’s Advanced Air Defense System

Turkey has significantly strengthened its national air defense systems, adding new capabilities to the Turkish Armed Forces’ inventory. These systems are critical for protecting against low-level threats, especially cruise missiles, at short range and low altitude.
Some of the new systems added to the inventory include the KORKUT and 35 mm AIC anti-aircraft guns, as well as the SUNGUR MANPADS and HİSAR-A+ systems. These systems are designed to be used by a single soldier and are intended for low-altitude defense. New systems, such as the first HİSAR-O+ system, have also entered the inventory, with ongoing mass production efforts.
The development of the HİSAR O+ RF, the RF-guided version of HİSAR O+, continues. Additionally, work is also ongoing for long-range air defense systems, such as the SIPER Block 1 and SIPER Block 2, with plans for a Block 3 version in the future, which will have tactical ballistic missile interceptor capability.
The KORKUT system, for example, is an air defense system developed specifically for the effective air defense of mobile elements and mechanized units. It operates in teams comprised of three Weapon System Vehicles (SSA) and one Command and Control Vehicle (KKA).
Similarly, the SUNGUR Air Defense Missile System is designed for short-range air defense of mobile/fixed units and facilities in the battlefield and rear area. Meanwhile, the HİSAR-A+ performs the air defense mission of armored mechanized mobile units and has the ability to move in all kinds of terrain conditions.
The development of these systems reflects Turkey’s commitment to strengthening its national defense capabilities and ensuring the protection of its airspace. With ongoing efforts in this area, Turkey aims to equip its naval and air forces with strong national air defense systems.
The SİPER Project, initiated to meet the country’s need for a long-range regional air and missile defense system, has also seen significant progress. Ultimately, these developments support Turkey’s efforts to enhance its national defense capabilities and protect its airspace from potential threats.
