Turkey’s Natural Gas Production on the Rise

Turkey is making significant strides in the energy market, boosting its economic power and reducing reliance on external sources of energy. The Countries Exporting Countries Forum’s ‘2050 View’ report highlights the importance of these developments.
According to the report, global gas production is projected to reach 5.317 trillion cubic meters by 2050. Europe is expected to see a decrease of 119 billion cubic meters in production, with Turkey emerging as a key player in natural gas production.
Turkey has seen a substantial increase in domestic gas discoveries, particularly with the introduction of the Sakarya Gas Field. Annual natural gas production has surged from 400 million cubic meters to 1.3 billion cubic meters, reaching 2.26 billion cubic meters in 2024. The report suggests that Turkey’s annual natural gas production could reach 17 billion cubic meters by 2050, thanks to developments and new discoveries in the Sakarya gas field.
This significant increase is seen as a crucial step towards reducing energy imports and achieving energy independence. Turkey is not only focusing on boosting its own gas production but also positioning itself as an energy hub. The country serves as a vital transit center between pipelines and LNG facilities in Europe, the Middle East, and Russia.
Overall, Turkey’s ambitious efforts in the energy sector are poised to enhance its energy security and bolster its role in the global energy market.
