
Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports Bak Asked for Support from National Olympic Committee

The TRNC National Olympic Committee (NOC) recently met with Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak and his delegation to discuss the presence of Turkish Cypriot athletes in the Turkish national teams and the issues they face.
The meeting, which also included Turkish Cypriot athletes and coaches serving in the Turkish national teams, addressed the re-planning of athletes’ participation in Turkish national team camps and resolving any problems encountered.
In attendance at the meeting were Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia Metin Feyzioğlu, BSEC Office President Ömer Cihan, and Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports TRNC Coordinator Mithat Tekçam.
At the meeting, TRNC National Olympic Committee President Dursun Koç discussed the need for athletes to participate in Turkish national teams until sports embargoes are lifted and federations become members of international and world federations recognized by the IOC. He also highlighted the administrative and technical problems faced by athletes in training, the development of sports facilities, and the construction of the Olympic House.
Koç also requested support from Minister Bak in meeting the material needs of the federations, developing a common strategy for the removal of embargoes within the scope of IOC criteria for the country’s sports, and resolving the administrative and technical issues faced by athletes.
The meeting between the TRNC National Olympic Committee and the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports highlights the ongoing efforts to support Turkish Cypriot athletes and integrate them into the larger Turkish sports community.
