Turkish Navy Prepares for Annual Inventory Ceremony

The Turkish Navy is set to bolster its strength with the addition of new naval platforms. According to the Turkish Naval Forces Command, the TCG İSTANBUL, TCG DERYA, TCG First Lieutenant Arif Ekmekçi, and MARLIN SİDA platforms will be entering the inventory.

These platforms have been built using local and national resources, showcasing Turkey’s commitment to enhancing its naval capabilities. A ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 19, 2023, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in attendance to mark the inclusion of these new platforms.

The naval platforms set to be added to the inventory include the TCG İSTANBUL (F-515), which is the 5th of the MİLGEM Program and the first of the STACK CLASS frigates. It is Turkey’s first frigate designed and produced with domestic resources. Additionally, the TCG DERYA (A-1590) Maritime Replenishment Combat Support Ship (DİMDEG) will be joining the fleet as the largest naval platform of the Turkish Navy after the TCG ANADOLU (L400) Amphibious Assault Ship.

The TCG First Lieutenant Arif Ekmekçi (A-575) Logistics Support Ship and MARLIN Armed Unmanned Marine Vehicle (SİDA) will also be included in the inventory. MARLIN SİDA is the first in the world with its electronic warfare capability.

In addition to these additions, the TCG PİRİREİS Submarine, the first of the Reis Class Submarines, is expected to join the inventory this year with the New Type Submarine Project. Furthermore, the TCG AKHİSAR and TCG KOÇHİSAR, the first of the HİSAR Class Offshore Patrol Ships, are anticipated to enter the Naval Forces Command’s inventory this year.

The construction activities of 3 STIF Class Frigates are currently underway, and contracts for the 4 STACK Class Frigates are expected to be signed in the near future.

The addition of these new naval platforms will undoubtedly enhance the Turkish Navy’s capabilities and strengthen its position in the region.
