Turkish Navy’s Success with ‘BIRDTRAP’ Overcomes Embargo

The TCG Istanbul and Naval Vehicles entrance ceremony will be held in Yalova on January 19 as part of the İSTİF Frigate Project. This project has seen great progress under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, with significant contributions from Turkey’s domestic and national defense industry products to enhance the effectiveness and deterrence of the Turkish Armed Forces.
One of the highlights of the project is the TCG Istanbul frigate, the Sea Supply and Combat Support Ship TCG DERYA, and the Logistics Support Ship TCG ÜTĞM. Additionally, the commissioning ceremony of ARİF EKMEKÇİ and MARLIN Unmanned Marine Vehicles will also take place in Yalova on January 19.
Altınay Defense Technologies has developed the Helicopter Capture and Transfer System, known as “KUŞKAPANI,” which will be included in the inventory of the Turkish Naval Forces. This system will serve on the Sea Replenishment Combat Support Ship (A-1590) TCG DERYA and Turkey’s first national frigate TCG Istanbul (F-515).
The Helicopter Capture and Transfer System (HYTS) facilitates the safe landing of Sikorsky Sea Hawk SH-70 TN model helicopters on military ships under adverse sea and day/night conditions, without the need for an operator in the deck area. It ensures the immediate security and transfer of the helicopter to the hangar.
The development of this system involved complex engineering disciplines, including image processing, position calculation, embedded software creation, control algorithms, and the design of hydraulic and pneumatic driven mechanisms.
The İSTİF Frigate Project has made significant strides in strengthening the capabilities of the Turkish Armed Forces, and the upcoming entrance ceremony in Yalova is a testament to the progress made in this regard.
