Turkish Salmon Exports Reach Record Levels in 2024
In a recent report released by the Turkish government, it has been revealed that exports of Turkish salmon have reached record levels in 2024. Turkish salmon, which are grown in established farms in inland waters and transferred to cages in the Black Sea after reaching a certain weight, have seen a significant increase in both quantity and value of exports.
According to the report, exports of Turkish salmon totaled 497 million 968 thousand 66 dollars in 2024, compared to 396 million 294 thousand 502 dollars in 2023. In terms of quantity, exports increased from 63 thousand 158 tons to 78 thousand 76 tons, representing a 24 percent increase in quantity and a 26 percent increase in value compared to the previous year.
One of the key markets for Turkish salmon exports is the Russian Federation, where 58 thousand 342 tons of salmon worth 355 million 685 thousand 203 dollars were exported in 2024. This marked a 41 percent increase in quantity and a 53 percent increase in value compared to the previous year. Other top export destinations for Turkish salmon include Germany and Vietnam.
The Eastern Black Sea region played a significant role in these exports, with 30 thousand 971 tons of salmon worth 191 million 455 thousand 378 dollars exported to 21 countries in 2024. This represented a 16 percent increase in quantity and a 21 percent increase in value compared to 2023.
Commenting on the record-breaking exports, DKİB Fisheries Sector Committee Chairman İsmail Kobya emphasized the importance of Turkish salmon for the region’s economy. Kobya stated that plans are in place to further increase exports and explore new markets, including participating in fairs in Spain, China, and Japan.
