
Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) Releases Household Data

The average household size in Turkey has decreased from 4 people in 2008 to 3.17 people in 2022, according to the Address Based Population Registration System. Şırnak has the highest average household size, followed by Şanlıurfa and Batman. On the other hand, Tunceli and Çanakkale have the lowest average household size, followed by Giresun and Balikesir.
Additionally, the ratio of single-person households has increased from 13.9% in 2014 to 19.4% in 2022. Gümüşhane has the highest rate of single-person households, while Hakkari has the highest proportion of extended family households.
Overall, there has been a decrease in the proportion of households with extended families, and an increase in the proportion of households consisting of more than one person who did not have a spouse, mother-child, or father-child relationship, in other words, there was no nuclear family.
These statistics were announced by TURKSTAT, and they provide a glimpse into the changing dynamics of households in Turkey. The reasons for these changes could include urbanization, economic factors, and cultural shifts.
