Turkish Super Lig in Turmoil: Icardi Clash Between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray Sparks Controversy

MANAGERS ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THE DISCUSSIONS
In the aftermath of a controversial match between Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray, managers and club officials have been vocal about their grievances over the officiating and the use of VAR.
Galatasaray General Secretary, Eray Yazgan, spoke to GSTV about the club’s intention to apply to the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) regarding the penalty that was not awarded and the broadcaster’s failure to display the position from different angles on the screens.
Yazgan emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, stating, “There is clearly a punch thrown. It is a red card and a penalty. We saw that it was a penalty and a red card. I don’t know why the referee could not see it. Our interlocutor on this issue is not the broadcaster, it’s TFF.”
He also addressed the heated exchange between the managers, saying, “They are pitting us against each other. Naturally, İsmail Kartal feels obliged to respond to Okan Buruk’s words. I hope that TFF will question this matter and give the necessary penalties.”
Following Yazgan’s statement, Galatasaray Club released a photo of Icardi with a black eye, expressing frustration over the inability of the referee committee and VAR room to see what was evident in the image.
In response, Fenerbahçe Club defended Icardi, stating, “Trying to create grievance over the player hitting the goal post. To the discretion of the public.”
The controversy surrounding this match continues to escalate, and it remains to be seen how TFF will address the grievances raised by Galatasaray regarding the officiating and VAR decisions.
