Turkiye-Iraq Call for PKK Compliance in Joint Security Statement
A joint statement was released following the Türkiye-Iraq High Level Security Meeting, highlighting key points of agreement and cooperation between the two countries.
The fifth meeting of the Turkish-Iraq High Level Security Mechanism took place on April 13, 2025, with high-ranking officials from both nations discussing various important issues. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Republic of Turkey, including the Minister of National Defense, the President of the National Intelligence Organization, and the Deputy Minister of the Interior, as well as officials from Iraq such as the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Minister of Defense, Undersecretary of National Security, and other key figures.
During the meeting, both parties stressed the significance of political unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity for each other. They also expressed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in areas such as military, border security, anti-terrorism, defense industry, energy, water, and development projects.
One notable point of agreement was the joint stance against the PKK, a common threat for both countries. The parties highlighted the importance of implementing Öcalan’s call for the termination and release of the PKK, emphasizing the need for continued coordination and cooperation in addressing this shared challenge.
Additionally, discussions were held on finding a solution to the issues at Al-Hol, Roj, and other camps in Syria, with the parties agreeing to establish a joint committee to address these challenges. The fight against terrorism, particularly in Syria and neighboring countries, was also a key topic of conversation, with a focus on establishing a Joint Operation Center to address security concerns.
The parties also expressed concern about the violations in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syrian territories by Israel, as well as welcoming positive outcomes from the meeting between US and Iranian delegations on April 12, 2025. They believed that continued dialogue between the two parties could lead to a peaceful resolution of conflicts.
Overall, the joint statement reflects a strong commitment to bilateral cooperation and coordination on various issues of mutual interest and concern.
