Turkmen Ambassador to Qatar Publishes Article in Honor of 28th Anniversary of Neutrality
The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the State of Qatar, Myratgeldi Seyitmammedov, recently penned an article in one of the leading Arab newspapers, Al Sharq, in honor of the 28th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality.
In the article, the diplomat highlighted Turkmenistan’s dedication to fostering relations with Middle Eastern countries as a crucial component of its foreign policy strategy, with a particular emphasis on the priority role of Qatar in these efforts.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Qatar in 1996, substantial efforts have been made to rapidly advance bilateral partnership. This year saw the opening of a Turkmen diplomatic mission in Qatar’s capital, Doha, marking a significant milestone in the history of relations between the two nations.
A pivotal moment in the strengthening of ties between the two countries occurred earlier this year when President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov paid a state visit to Qatar. During his trip, at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Berdimuhamedov also had the honor of being a guest at one of the matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the first time the football championship was held in the Middle East.
Furthermore, on October 9 of this year, the National Day of Turkmenistan was celebrated in Al-Bidda Park in Doha as part of the international horticultural exhibition EXPO 2023.
The joint government Turkmen-Qatari commission on trade and economic cooperation plays a vital role in promoting cooperation between the two countries, with energy, trade, transport, communication, agriculture, and investment identified as key priority areas for development.
Al Sharq, the most widely read newspaper in Qatar, is published daily in Arabic and holds the largest circulation in the country. It has been recognized by international research agencies such as PARC and IPSOS for its influential status in the region.
The article underscores the commitment of both Turkmenistan and Qatar to strengthening their bilateral relations and fostering mutual cooperation across various sectors. With ongoing diplomatic efforts and high-level visits, the trajectory of the partnership between the two countries continues to show promise for the future.
