Turkmenistan and Iran Hold Bilateral Consultations on Caspian Sea Boundaries

From 7 to 8 April 2025, Turkmenistan and Iran came together for bilateral consultations at the Caspian Sea Institute in Ashgabat. The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss and determine various maritime boundaries, including the line of demarcation of fishing zones and the delimitation of the Caspian Sea bed.

The Turkmen delegation was led by Myrat Atajanov, the Director of the Caspian Sea Institute of Turkmenistan, while the Iranian side was headed by Alireza Jahangiri, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran for Caspian Sea Affairs.

The discussions were aimed at resolving longstanding issues related to the Caspian Sea and its resources. Both parties engaged in constructive dialogue to reach mutually acceptable agreements on these important matters. The final documents resulting from the consultations will help to clarify and solidify the boundaries and rights of both Turkmenistan and Iran in the Caspian Sea region.

These consultations mark a significant step towards enhancing cooperation and understanding between the two countries in the Caspian Sea area. It is hoped that the outcomes of the discussions will contribute to the sustainable management and development of the Caspian Sea resources for the benefit of both Turkmenistan and Iran.
