Turkmenistan Welcomes Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization
On April 28, 2025, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan held a meeting with Asad M. Khan, the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), who visited Turkmenistan to attend the inaugural ministerial forum focused on sustainable development within the ECO framework.
During the meeting, Secretary General Khan expressed his gratitude to President Berdimuhamedov for the time dedicated to the discussions. He highlighted the ECO’s commitment to fostering partnerships with Turkmenistan, a nation that is making significant strides in its economic development.
Khan remarked on the high organizational standards of the ECO Forum and thanked the Turkmen leader for the support received in facilitating this important event.
In return, President Berdimuhamedov warmly welcomed Khan and expressed optimism that the forum would enhance regional economic cooperation, strengthen mutually beneficial ties, and further the progress of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The President emphasized that collaboration with the ECO constitutes a pivotal aspect of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy. Over the years, the nation has developed a robust partnership with the organization and is committed to supporting initiatives that promote economic cooperation.
Particular focus was given to the energy sector, where President Berdimuhamedov reiterated Turkmenistan’s readiness to diversify its natural gas supplies. The country possesses vast reserves of natural gas and aims to enhance partnerships with other ECO member states in this domain.
Additionally, the President pointed out Turkmenistan’s strategic geographical position as a critical asset for its transport and logistics sector. He stated that significant efforts are underway to establish international transport corridors of strategic importance, including the North-South and East-West routes. President Berdimuhamedov expressed the nation’s willingness to consider specific project proposals related to the development of transport and transit infrastructures.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both leaders extending their best wishes to one another, reaffirming their commitment to the goals of the ECO and the future of Turkmenistan’s partnership within the organization.
