Turkmendenizderyayollary Agency Visits Valencia Port

Turkmenistan Waterways Agency Delegation Visits Port of Valencia

A delegation from the agency “Turkmendenizderyayollary” (Sea and river routes of Turkmenistan) recently paid a visit to the seaport of Valencia in Spain. The two-day trip, which took place on January 14-15, was part of the OSCE project aimed at promoting “green” ports on the Caspian Sea.

According to the agency’s website, representatives of the Turkmenistan Waterways Agency used the visit to familiarize themselves with the Port of Valencia’s efforts to reduce CO2 emissions and transition to bioenergy, as well as other experimental projects such as the use of tractors and reach stackers with hydrogen engines. The delegation also engaged in knowledge exchange on port management, digitalization of port operations, and the application of sustainable development principles.

The OSCE Green Ports project seeks to unite efforts in transforming the Caspian Sea into a logistical hub that facilitates trade and shipping.

The Port of Valencia, where the delegation visited, is the fifth busiest seaport in Europe and is the leading container shipping port in Spain, as well as the second in the Mediterranean basin.

The visit to Valencia allowed the Turkmenistan Waterways Agency to gain valuable insights and expertise in sustainable port operations, contributing to the agency’s vision of promoting environmentally friendly and efficient maritime routes in the Caspian Sea.
