Turkmenistan and Japan Strengthen Cooperation in Various Sectors
Turkmenistan and Japan recently held political consultations in Tokyo to discuss current issues of cooperation between the two countries. The Turkmen side, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Gurbanov, met with the Japanese side, led by Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ishikawa Masaki.
During the meeting, both sides acknowledged the dynamic development of relations between Turkmenistan and Japan across various areas of cooperation. They also discussed the upcoming first summit of the countries participating in the “Central Asia + Japan” dialogue.
Emphasizing their commitment to expanding constructive partnership, the two countries also discussed collaboration within international organizations such as the UN. The UN General Assembly resolution on proclaiming 2025 the “International Year of Peace and Trust,” initiated by Turkmenistan, was recognized during the meeting.
In terms of trade and economic cooperation, both parties discussed ongoing projects and issues related to their implementation, highlighting successful cooperation in sectors such as oil, gas, petrochemicals, electric power, and transportation. The joint Committee plays a crucial role in facilitating cooperation and leveraging the existing potential for further collaboration.
The discussions also touched upon Turkmenistan’s participation in the World Expo 2025 in Osaka and the upcoming National Day of Turkmenistan on 14 April 2025. The humanitarian sphere was also recognized as an integral part of Turkmen-Japanese partnership, with a focus on education, science, cultural exchange, and digital technology cooperation.
Furthermore, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Gurbanov met with State Minister of Foreign Affairs Hisayuki Fujii to exchange views on the current state and future prospects of Turkmen-Japanese cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields. Both sides expressed readiness to strengthen their partnership on a wide range of issues.
Additionally, the Turkmen delegation met with representatives from Itochu Corporation to discuss the implementation of agreements reached at previous meetings of the economic cooperation committees. This demonstrates the ongoing efforts to enhance collaboration between Turkmenistan and Japan in various sectors.
Overall, the discussions during the political consultations in Tokyo reflect the mutual desire of Turkmenistan and Japan to deepen their cooperation and expand their partnership in diverse areas for the benefit of both countries.
