Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Meets Economic Cooperation Secretary General

Meeting of the Turkmen Foreign Minister with the Secretary General of the Organization of Economic Cooperation
On April 28, 2025, a significant meeting took place in Arkadag at the inaugural high-level forum for sustainable development, involving Rashid Meredov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, and Assad Majid Khan, the Secretary General of the Organization of Economic Cooperation (OEC).
During their discussions, the leaders explored key avenues for strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and the OEC. They outlined a collaborative roadmap, emphasizing the importance of initiatives proposed by the President of Turkmenistan that advocate for a more prominent role for the OEC on the global stage.
The significance of partnerships among countries across Central Asia, the Middle East, and South Asia was highlighted, with energy, transport and communication, trade, economic integration, digitalization, and cultural exchanges being identified as priority areas of interaction.
Both parties recognized the potential for deepening their partnership, underpinned by the Ashgabat Consensus, which was established during the 15th OEC summit in November 2021. This framework serves as a guiding principle for collaborative actions and initiatives.
A noteworthy topic of discussion was the enhancement of transport and transit capabilities. The Turkmen delegation proposed organizing an event to honor the historical significance of the Great Silk Road, which would further highlight the region’s transport potential.
Concluding the meeting, both Meredov and Khan reaffirmed their commitment to constructive dialogue and expressed confidence about the progressive development of their partnership moving forward. The discussions marked a critical step towards fostering a collaborative environment aimed at achieving sustainable development in the region.
