
Turkmenistan’s Investment Potential Shines on Global Stage

Turkmenistan’s investment potential has taken center stage in global business circles at the International Forum on Attracting Foreign Investments into the Economy of Turkmenistan. Hosted by state concerns Türkmengaz, Türkmennebit, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan, the forum kicked off on April 23, 2025, in the capital of Malaysia.
The event served as a crucial platform bringing together leaders and representatives from leading international energy organizations, oil and gas companies, construction firms, transport and communication companies, financial institutions, research centers, and experts.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov delivered a welcoming address to the participants, expressing confidence that the forum would enhance mutually beneficial partnerships and boost business contacts for investment attraction.
Discussions at the forum focused on various current issues, including Turkmenistan’s hydrocarbon resource base, new investment projects in the oil and gas industry, and the development of the largest gas field “Galkynyş.”
A significant topic of discussion was the transnational gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI), aimed at boosting regional energy cooperation.
The forum also highlighted the importance of accelerating investment in Turkmenistan’s infrastructure projects, such as construction, transport, information technology, telecommunications, and urban development. The innovative “smart” city of Arkadag, currently under construction, was highlighted as a model for sustainable development.
Turkmenistan showcased its commitment to environmental responsibility and proactive stance on climate action at the conference. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced Turkmenistan’s accession to the Global Methane Commitment and reiterated cooperation with international partners on climate issues.
Efforts to reduce methane and CO2 emissions through initiatives like carbon capture, storage, and monetization were discussed as part of Turkmenistan’s strategy to develop clean energy in line with global climate goals.
The forum underscored the significant potential for enhanced cooperation between Turkmenistan and Malaysia across various sectors. Both countries’ focus on sustainable development and advanced technologies present opportunities for mutual collaboration in areas such as green technologies and smart city development.
Overall, the International Forum on Attracting Foreign Investments into the Economy of Turkmenistan provided a constructive platform for dialogue between Turkmen and Malaysian representatives. Participants praised the event’s constructive nature and highlighted its importance in discussing prospects for fruitful cooperation.
