Turkmenistan’s State Committee and UNFPA Team Up to Boost Youth Sports Participation

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Office in Turkmenistan, in partnership with the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Physical Culture and Sports and the public organization “Yenme,” recently organized a large-scale sporting event in Ashgabat.

Held at the Olympic Village in Ashgabat, the event was in honor of World Health Day, observed annually on April 7th. More than 200 participants gathered with the goal of promoting sports among young people.

The event kicked off with a mass run, followed by interactive sessions on gender equality, kickboxing, taekwondo masterclasses, and a yoga masterclass for the youth in attendance.

The highlight of the initiative was a performance by young gymnasts and a musical and dance group from the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports.

This event marks a significant stride towards fostering an inclusive and healthy society, where every young person, regardless of gender, has equal opportunities to engage in sports and public life. It emphasized the importance of gender equality and the pivotal role of youth in advancing sustainable development.

The collaboration between UNFPA, the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports, and “Yenme” showcases the commitment to promoting a culture of sports and equality in Turkmenistan.
