Turning Minimum Wage Earners into Homeowners for Low-Income Citizens.

Turkey’s main opposition leader, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, has announced a plan to provide affordable housing to low-income citizens if he is elected president in the upcoming election. In a video posted on Twitter, Kılıçdaroğlu highlighted the issue of rising rents and housing prices, which have made it difficult for young people and those on minimum wage to buy their own homes. He blamed the government for the situation and said that his program, called the ‘Second Century Program,’ aims to build social housing with suitable payment conditions for those in need. The program aims to quadruple the number of social housing in five years and increase the rate of home ownership to 75 percent. Kılıçdaroğlu also vowed not to sell houses to foreigners until the housing problem of Turkish citizens is resolved.
