TÜSİAD Bans Two Presidents from Traveling Abroad: Orhan Turan and Ömer Aras Speak Out
The Turkish Industrialists’ and Business People Association (TÜSİAD) President Orhan Turan and the Association’s High Consultation Board Chairman Ömer Aras are facing accusations of attempting to influence fair trial and spreading misleading information. The investigation was launched following speeches made at TÜSİAD’s general assembly on February 13th.
During the meeting, TÜSİAD High Advisory Board Chairman Ömer Aras expressed concern about recent developments in society. TÜSİAD President Turan also addressed the importance of establishing the rule of law to solve internal and external problems. However, the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office found some of their statements to be suggestive and disruptive to public peace.
After testifying, both Turan and Aras were released on judicial control measures, including a prohibition on leaving the country. In their statements, Turan emphasized his background as a mechanical engineer and his involvement in the insulation sector, while Aras highlighted his role as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of a bank and his efforts to contribute to the Turkish economy.
The prosecutor’s office believes that the statements made by Turan and Aras could spread misleading information and cause public distress. As a result, they have requested judicial control measures against the suspects. It is now up to the court to decide on the next steps in this ongoing investigation.
