Two Cargo Ships Collide off the Coast of Üsküdar, Turkey

In a recent maritime incident, the 80-meter-long dry cargo ship AYED-1 and the 180-meter-long bulk cargo ship BINUN ACE collided off the coast of Üsküdar. The AYED-1 was sailing from Batumi to Saudi Arabia, while the BINUN ACE was en route from Spain to Batumi when the collision occurred.

Fortunately, no deaths or injuries were reported as a result of the accident. However, both ships sustained damage and were anchored in the Ahırkapı Iron Zone for further inspection and assessment.

In response to the collision, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure dispatched the KURTARMA-2, KURTARMA-5, and MEHMETÇİK tugs, as well as the KEGM-4 fast rescue boat belonging to the Coastal Safety General Directorate, to the scene of the incident. The authorities have stated that only material damage occurred and that the situation is under control.

Conversations over the radio following the accident revealed the urgency of the situation, with the captain of a nearby passenger boat instructing to evacuate the park and advising the other ship to “run away” to avoid further consequences.

The Coastal Police are currently conducting an investigation to determine whether there was any negligence that led to the collision. More information will be provided as the investigation progresses.
