UAE’s Development Plan for Navoi SEZ and Navoi International Airport’s Cargo Terminal
Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade Oybek Khamrayev recently held talks with representatives from DP World and CBRE consulting company to discuss the development of special economic zones (SEZ) and transport and logistics infrastructure in Uzbekistan.
According to the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade (MIIT), the discussions focused on the prospects for enhancing cooperation in improving the management of SEZs and the associated transport and logistics facilities. One of the main topics of discussion was the development of the Navoi SEZ and the cargo terminal at the Navoi International Airport. The foreign representatives were provided with a detailed overview of the industrial potential of the SEZ and the technological features of the cargo terminal. The meeting also highlighted various opportunities to enhance the efficiency of the SEZ and increase the terminal’s throughput by implementing innovative approaches and best practices from DP World.
As a result of the meeting, it was agreed that DP World will present a comprehensive development strategy for the Navoi SEZ by the end of September this year.
DP World, founded in 2005, specializes in the management and development of sea and dry ports across the globe. Currently operating in 45 countries with over 150 companies under its management, DP World recorded an annual revenue of $10.7 billion in 2021.
Additionally, on May 29, DP World appointed CBRE as the project consultant for the development of the SEZ and associated infrastructure. With over 30 years of experience, CBRE is known as one of the world’s leading consulting firms. The company has more than 500 offices in 100 countries and a total staff of over 115,000 employees.
The discussions between the Uzbek Ministry and the representatives from DP World and CBRE highlight the commitment to further develop and improve the SEZs and transportation infrastructure in Uzbekistan. These partnerships and the implementation of innovative strategies are expected to boost economic growth and attract investment to the country.
