UK Minister of State Briefed on Armenia’s Landmine Risk

Azerbaijan and UK Discuss Regional Security and Cooperation
On April 29, Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, engaged in a phone conversation with Stephen Doughty, the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for Europe, North America, and Overseas Territories. The two leaders focused on strengthening bilateral relations, promoting regional cooperation, and addressing various security issues affecting both regions.
During the discussion, Minister Bayramov provided a comprehensive overview of the current regional dynamics in the post-conflict period. He highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by landmines and their threat to security and safety in the area. Furthermore, the conversation touched upon the normalization process with Armenia, with Bayramov outlining the progress of peace treaty negotiations initiated by Azerbaijan. He identified significant obstacles to the negotiations’ successful conclusion, reinforcing the importance of Armenia’s commitment to renouncing territorial claims against Azerbaijan in both its Constitution and legal framework. Bayramov framed this renunciation as a critical step toward establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus.
The conversation also allowed both ministers to exchange views on a range of issues of mutual interest, reflecting the ongoing commitment of Azerbaijan and the UK to collaborate on security and regional stability. The dialogue underscored the importance of continued cooperation between the two nations, particularly in navigating complex geopolitical landscapes.
This engagement illustrates the persistent efforts by Azerbaijan to foster international partnerships while addressing pressing regional issues.
