Ukraine Summons Chinese Diplomat Over Involvement of Chinese Citizens in Russian War
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of China in response to the participation of Chinese citizens in the war on the side of Russia. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha strongly condemned the engagement of Chinese nationals by Russia in combat operations.
“We summoned the Charge d’Affaires of China in Ukraine to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to condemn this fact and demand explanations,” said Minister Sybiha.
The minister highlighted that the involvement of Chinese nationals in the war against Ukraine raises questions about China’s commitment to peace and undermines trust in Beijing as a responsible permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently revealed that Ukrainian forces had captured two Chinese citizens fighting for Russia in the Donetsk region, with the likelihood of more Chinese nationals involved in the conflict. Zelenskyy clarified that Ukrainian defenders had clashed with six Chinese soldiers, capturing two of them.
Zelenskyy pointed out that this situation signifies the military support of another country for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The participation of Chinese citizens in the war has sparked concerns and led to diplomatic actions by Ukraine against China.
