UN expresses concern over escalating Israeli attacks in Rafah
The latest situation in the Middle East was discussed at the UN Security Council meeting, where Tor Wennesland provided updates on the alarming conditions in Rafah, Gaza. Wennesland expressed deep concern over the escalating violence and deteriorating security situation in Rafah due to Israel’s recent attacks.
He highlighted the lack of safe spaces in Gaza and the urgent need for humanitarian aid to reach the helpless civilians trapped in the conflict zone. Wennesland urged all parties to resume negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza to prevent further regional tensions and humanitarian crises.
The Director of the Operations and Defense Unit of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Edem Wosornu, also shared his thoughts on the dire situation in Gaza. Wosornu described the current conditions as a disaster, a nightmare, and a hell on earth, emphasizing the urgent need for protection of the displaced Palestinians and the facilitation of humanitarian aid to the region.
The toll of deaths, injuries, and destruction in Gaza is unimaginable, as the ongoing attacks continue to wreak havoc on the civilian population. Wosornu called for immediate action to ensure the swift and unimpeded delivery of aid to Gaza in accordance with international humanitarian law.
The need for a viable political plan to end the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis and establish a two-state solution has become more imperative than ever amidst the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
