
UN Headquarters Hosts Opening Ceremony for International Year of Peace and Trust

The International Year of Peace and Trust officially kicked off with a grand opening ceremony at the United Nations headquarters in New York on January 17, 2025. Hosted by the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan, the event drew the attendance of esteemed UN representatives.
During the ceremony, the representative of Turkmenistan highlighted the significance of the International Year of Peace and Trust, coinciding with the country’s 30th anniversary of its permanent neutrality status as recognized by UN resolutions in 1995 and 2015.
Notable figures present at the event included Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Miroslav Jenča, Under-Secretary-General Miguel Angel Moratinos, Deputy Secretary-General Vladimir Voronkov, and Head of the Office of the President of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly Ivor Richard Fang.
Miroslav Jenča, speaking on behalf of the UN Secretary-General, commended Turkmenistan for its pivotal role in advocating for global peace, trust, and dialogue. He expressed gratitude for Turkmenistan’s support in the UN’s efforts to bolster stability and security on regional and global scales.
The ceremony also highlighted a recent phone conversation between Turkmenistan’s National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, underscoring the country’s dedication to fostering a culture of peace and cooperation.
Participants at the event outlined plans for the International Year of Peace and Trust, including the upcoming International Forum of Peace and Trust to be hosted in Ashgabat in December 2025. This forum aims to unite global participants in collaborative efforts to enhance the culture of peace worldwide.
Representatives from various diplomatic missions, including Uganda, Iraq, Egypt, and Venezuela, expressed support for Turkmenistan’s “Road Map” within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust. They emphasized the importance of strengthening trust-based dialogue between nations as a cornerstone of maintaining peace.
Turkmenistan’s commitment to promoting peace, security, stability, and sustainable development through collaboration with the international community was reaffirmed at the ceremony, showcasing the country’s dedication to global peace initiatives.
