UN Launches International Year of Peace and Trust, Aims to Fill the World with Harmony

The United Nations has officially kicked off the International Year of Peace and Trust on January 17, 2025, during a grand opening ceremony held at the UN Headquarters in New York. The main goal of this initiative is to foster dialogue and cooperation among nations to promote peace and trust on a global scale.

Organized by the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan, the event saw the presence of distinguished UN representatives, including UN Assistant Secretary-General Miroslav Jenca and President of the General Assembly Filemon Young. Deputy Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN, Ata Eyeberdyev, highlighted the significance of this year for Turkmenistan as it marks the 30th anniversary of the country declaring permanent neutrality, a status recognized by UN General Assembly resolutions in 1995 and 2015.

The International Year of Peace and Trust was established during the 78th session of the General Assembly through the initiative of Turkmenistan, gaining support from 86 countries. Quoting the renowned Turkmen poet and philosopher Magtymguly Fragi, Eyeberdyev emphasized the importance of unity and understanding in creating a peaceful global community.

Several events are scheduled to take place throughout the year as part of the International Year of Peace and Trust, including a high-level meeting to promote existing regional peace zones and the Inter-Parliamentary Forum on Peace and Trust in Turkmenistan. Eyeberdyev concluded by expressing Turkmenistan’s pride in hosting the International Forum on Peace and Trust in Ashgabat in December 2025, bringing together participants from around the world to advance the global culture of peace.

This initiative marks a significant step towards promoting peace and trust among nations and building a more unified and harmonious world.
