UN Security Council Unanimously Adopts Resolution on Tolerance and Peace
The United Nations Security Council has unanimously passed Resolution 2686, focusing on the promotion of tolerance and the maintenance of international peace and security, according to TASS reports. This resolution was endorsed by all 15 member countries of the UN Security Council.
The text of the document stresses the commitment of UN member states to coexist peacefully with one another and underscores the essentiality of international cooperation in addressing economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian challenges.
Recognizing the impact of hate speech stemming from discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, religion, and language, all 15 nations on the Security Council call upon international and regional organizations to openly denounce such expressions.
In an effort to enhance the integrity of information on digital platforms, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres presented a report. He urged for coordinated actions to create a safer and more inclusive digital space.
Moreover, the Secretary-General put forth recommendations that could potentially serve as the foundation for a Code of Conduct. He urged governments, technology companies, and various stakeholders to refrain from using, supporting, or amplifying disinformation.
