Understanding Air Pollution: Identifying Risky Values District by District

CNN TÜRK Reports Increased Air Pollution in Istanbul Due to Desert Dust
According to CNN TÜRK’s Meteorology Advisor Orhan Şen, the city of Istanbul is currently experiencing an unhealthy level of air pollution due to desert dust. Şen mentioned that Göztepe and Sultangazi were the areas with the highest pollution levels.
The desert dust, coming from Africa, has affected parts of the country, including Istanbul, leading to increased air pollution in certain districts. Orhan Şen highlighted that places with heavy traffic like Mecidiyeköy and Aksaray were also recording higher pollution levels.
“We define good weather between 0 and 50, and medium between 50 and 100. It is at a sensitive level between 100 and 150,” explained Şen. The district with the least measured air pollution was Yenibosna with a level of 19.
Şen warned that when air pollution exceeds 150, it becomes an unhealthy environment, and wearing a mask is recommended. He emphasized the importance of taking precautions to protect oneself from the harmful effects of polluted air.
The current situation in Istanbul serves as a reminder of the importance of monitoring air quality and taking steps to reduce pollution levels in order to safeguard public health.
