Update on Corruption Operation in the Ministry of Immigration: Individual Files Being Dissected
An investigation into corruption allegations involving Ekrem İmamoğlu, the mayor of Istanbul, has taken a new turn as files related to the arrest of two CHP deputies were sent to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Following the arrest of CHP deputies Ozgur Karabat and Turan Taskin Ozer, their files were separated and sent to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation. This decision was made after information, documents, and witness statements led authorities to believe that an investigation was necessary.
In a separate development, Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a “terror and corruption” investigation related to events surrounding the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and Ekrem İmamoğlu. As a result of these investigations, 206 suspects have been detained on charges including ‘Opposition to the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’, ‘Insulting the President of the Officer’, and ‘Insulting the President’.
Additionally, Deputy Mayor of Şişli Ebru Özdemir has surrendered to the Istanbul Courthouse in relation to the “terror” investigation conducted by the IMM. This investigation has also led to the arrest of several other suspects, including Ekrem İmamoğlu and officials from the IMM.
