Update on Injured Children in Suzak Tragedy, Health Ministry Reports

At least 34 people were injured in a tragic incident during a young manaschi contest in Zherge-Tal village, as reported by the Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan, Alymkadyr Beishenaliev to 24.kg news agency.

The Minister revealed that he personally visited the site and the injured individuals the night before. Four of the injured are currently being treated at Suzak district hospital, with one suffering from a concussion and another with a broken leg. Additionally, four are receiving medical attention at the Oktyabrsky General Medical Practice Center, while 11 victims are hospitalized at the Jalal-Abad Children’s Clinical Hospital. One individual is being treated at the adult regional hospital, with five children in the intensive care unit, two of which have undergone surgery for ruptured livers and spleens. Fortunately, they are conscious and stable. Another child is scheduled for surgery today, specifically for craniotomy.

Among the injured is a 36-year-old teacher who was present in the yurt at the time of the tragic collision. Minister Beishenaliev emphasized that medical professionals are on-site and are providing all necessary care and medications for the injured individuals.

The young manaschi contest, which took place in Zherge-Tal village, Suzak district, Jalal-Abad region, ended in heartbreak as schoolchildren reciting excerpts from the Manas epic were struck by a Hyundai Porter truck during the event. The driver of the truck has been detained by authorities.

Following the incident, Minister Beishenaliev met with the families of the victims and teachers to provide support and assurance during this difficult time. While the community is understandably shaken by the tragedy, the Minister assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the well-being of those affected.
