US Ambassador Michaeler Tours Rasht Valley
Dushanbe, Tajikistan – U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan Manuel P. Micaller, Jr., recently completed a successful trip to the Rasht Valley of Tajikistan. During his visit, Ambassador Micaller engaged in discussions with the local authorities of Rasht and Lakh districts to explore areas of bilateral cooperation and development opportunities. He also met with the Regional Representative of Rasht Valley for the Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense to gain insights into the natural disasters the valley faces and the community’s preparedness efforts.
Emphasizing the importance of enhancing Tajikistan’s economy, natural resource management, tourism, emergency preparedness, and education, Ambassador Micaller expressed his commitment to providing more opportunities for the people of Rasht Valley and beyond.
In addition to his official engagements, the Ambassador visited students participating in the Embassy’s English Access Microscholarship Program in Rasht and Lakh districts, as well as the American Space Gharm, which offers education programs to young individuals in the region. Furthermore, Ambassador Micaller met with farmers supported by USAID and the Aga Khan Foundation who are investing in cold storage to access premium markets, focusing on promoting Rasht Valley branded produce.
During his visit, Ambassador Micaller had the privilege of visiting Mirzoshoh Akobirov’s Ethnobotanical Garden and private museum in Jafr village. He also took the opportunity to plant a tree in Kamarob valley as part of a community reforestation project supported by USAID, the Tajik Forestry Agency, and the U.S. Forest Service.
Throughout his stay, Ambassador Micaller appreciated the warmth and hospitality of the people of Rasht Valley and savored the renowned Gharm qurutob dish. His visit underscored the commitment of the United States to strengthening partnerships and promoting development in Tajikistan.
