US Approves F-16 for Turkey and F-35 for Greece

The United States has approved the sale of 40 new F-16V fighter jets and 79 modernization kits to Turkey. At the same time, the U.S. has also given the green light for the supply of 40 F-35A fighter jets to Greece.
The sale, estimated to cost $8.6 billion (the actual contract price is likely to be lower), includes 40 F-35A aircraft, 42 Pratt & Whitney F135-PW-100 engines, electronic warfare systems, and various other support systems, equipment, and spare parts. The package aims to modernize the Greek air force and enhance Greece’s defense capabilities.
In addition, the U.S. has expressed that the proposed sale to Greece will enable the country to maintain regional security and defend NATO Allies while maintaining interoperability with U.S. and NATO forces. It is also expected to compensate for the obsolescence of other Hellenic Air Force aircraft such as the F-35, F-4, and Mirage 2000.
The approval of the sale comes amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region, with the U.S. seeking to support its allies and maintain a balance of power. The move is likely to have implications for the regional defense dynamics and may impact the military capabilities of the countries involved.
