US Authorizes Sale of Javelin Missiles to Kosovo

The US Department of Defense has recently approved the sale of Javelin Shoulder-Launched Anti-Tank Missiles to Kosovo. The sale includes a total of 246 missiles and accompanying equipment, with an estimated value of 75 million dollars. The package consists of Javelin FGM-148F Missiles, Javelin Low-Weight Command/Launch Units, and additional equipment and support services. The main contractor for this sale is the Javelin Joint Venture, a collaboration between Lockheed Martin and Raytheon.

In a statement released by the Pentagon, it was emphasized that the proposed sale would support the foreign policy objectives and national security of the United States by increasing the security of a European partner, which plays a crucial role in maintaining political and economic stability in Europe. The sale is expected to enhance Kosovo’s long-term defense capacity, enabling the country to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity to fulfill its national defense requirements.

The Pentagon also expressed confidence in Kosovo’s ability to seamlessly integrate this new equipment into its armed forces. Aside from the Javelin Missiles, Kosovo’s Armed Forces already possess Roketsan-produced OMTAS Anti-Tank Missiles, which are of a higher class than the Javelin Missiles. Additionally, Roketsan is in the final stages of developing KARAOK MANPATS, an equivalent to the Javelin Missile.

This sale is expected to further strengthen Kosovo’s defensive capabilities and contribute to regional stability. The source of this information is DefenseSanayiST.com.
