US to Resume Intelligence Sharing and Security Assistance to Ukraine
After talks between the United States and Ukraine in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, a joint statement was released announcing the immediate resumption of intelligence sharing and security assistance to Ukraine. This decision comes after a period of pause in intelligence sharing, as reported by the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper.
It was previously noted that the United States had stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine, a move reportedly made by US President Donald Trump. Additionally, the US had also prohibited the UK from sharing intelligence with Kyiv. However, with this new announcement, the pause on intelligence sharing has been lifted, and security assistance will resume.
In response to inquiries about US intelligence support for Ukraine, a Pentagon spokesperson stated that all assistance to Ukraine had been paused based on orders received by the Defense Department. This pause in security assistance was initiated shortly after a meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on February 28.
The suspension of military aid to Ukraine was implemented on March 4, affecting all US military equipment not currently in Ukraine, including weapons on aircraft and ships, as well as those in transit zones in Poland. With the confirmation of the US’s decision to resume intelligence sharing and security assistance, Ukraine can expect support in its efforts to enhance its security capabilities.
