US Under Secretary of State set to visit Uzbekistan
The U.S. Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, Uzra Zeya, is set to address a scientific conference on criminal proceedings in Tashkent. She will be discussing important issues related to gender equality and combating gender-based violence.
During her visit to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan from May 19-23, Uzra Zeya will focus on topics of democratic governance, the rule of law, human rights, the protection of vulnerable populations, and religious freedom. In Astana, she will lead the U.S. delegation at the High-Level Dialogue on Human Rights and Democratic Reforms to emphasize partnership and support for Kazakhstan’s domestic reforms. Additionally, she will engage with civil society representatives to promote democratic values.
In Tashkent, the Under Secretary will participate in a scientific conference on criminal proceedings organized by the Regional Dialogue. Her speech will support Uzbekistan’s ongoing efforts in implementing constitutional reforms related to human rights and equal access to justice. She will also hold discussions with government officials, civil society representatives, and human rights defenders on promoting gender equality, combating gender-based violence, advocating for religious freedom, and protecting vulnerable population groups.
This visit highlights the commitment of the U.S. State Department to advancing human rights and democratic principles in Central Asia, and underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing pressing issues related to gender equality and human rights.
