USA to Deliver UH-60M Helicopters to Croatia
The United States State Department recently approved the sale of 8 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters and related equipment to the Government of Croatia. Through Foreign Military Sales (FMS) at an estimated cost of $500 million, this deal is expected to benefit both countries.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the potential sale on January 26, 2024. As part of the agreement, Sikorsky company will serve as the main contractor, and there are no known offset agreements associated with this potential sale.
The contract, estimated at $500 million, will include 8 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, 19 T700-GE 701D engines (16 installed, 3 spare), AN/ARC-231A RT-1987 very high frequency (VHF) / ultra high frequency (UHF) / Line of Sight (LOS) and satellite communications (SATCOM) radio, 10 AN/AAR-57 Missile Warning Systems (CMWS), 20 H-764U Embedded Global Positioning Systems, 18 M240H machine guns, as well as training, documentation, support, test equipment, and other related elements of logistics and program support.
The Croatian Government currently has 4 UH-60 helicopters in its inventory, two of which were purchased from the United States in 2018, and two were donated free of charge. The delivery of the Black Hawk helicopter pair to the Croatian inventory took place in February 2022, and the new agreement will also include significant amounts of communication and security equipment to meet Croatia’s comprehensive range of requirements.
Overall, the proposed agreement will address Croatia’s communication and security needs with various sophisticated systems, laying the groundwork for enhanced defense capabilities in the region.
