Uzbek Blogger Beknazar Rakhmatov Deported by Turkish Authorities Despite Consulate’s Efforts

Concerns are growing as citizens of Uzbekistan are facing increased deportations from Turkey. Beknazar Rakhmatov, the author of the Telegram channel “Uzbeks in Turkey,” recently revealed that he was denied entry to Turkey despite legally living and working in the country for four years. Rakhmatov was detained at Istanbul Airport on May 28 and subsequently deported, despite having all his documents in order.
The reasons for Rakhmatov’s deportation remain unknown, causing distress among the Uzbek community in Turkey. Another Uzbek citizen, Fayzullakhon Otakhonov, who communicated with Rakhmatov, shared on Facebook that Rakhmatov was detained at the airport and quickly deported without any clear explanation.
Rakhmatov’s deportation is part of a concerning trend, as more Uzbeks living in Turkey are reportedly facing similar situations in recent months. The increased number of deportations is straining the relationship between the two nations, with many expressing dismay at the harsh treatment of Uzbeks by Turkish authorities.
Despite efforts by the Istanbul Consulate General of Uzbekistan to assist Rakhmatov, he was ultimately sent back to Uzbekistan. Rakhmatov has expressed his intention to appeal the decision within the allotted time frame.
The situation has sparked worry among Uzbeks living in Turkey, with reports of other young Uzbeks being denied entry to the country since March of this year. Rakhmatov had been actively reporting on these incidents on his Telegram channel, which has a significant following.
As the issue unfolds, the Consulate General in Istanbul and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have yet to provide official comments on the matter. The uncertainty surrounding the deportations is causing anxiety within the Uzbek community in Turkey, with many hoping for a resolution that respects the rights and dignity of all individuals involved.
