Uzbek Citizen Caught Smuggling $30,000 Out of Kyrgyzstan
Attempted Illegal Money Transport Prevented at Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Border
On September 23, 2024, at the Dostuk-Avtodorozhny checkpoint on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, an attempt to illegally transport money was thwarted. The Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan reported that a 24-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan was caught transporting $30,000 or 2,527,155 soms.
The man, who was traveling from Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan, failed to declare the money as required by customs legislation. Furthermore, he was unable to provide a legitimate explanation for the source of the foreign currency.
Following the proper procedures, the necessary documentation was completed, and both the currency and the individual were handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
The State Committee for National Security emphasizes that the temporary prohibition on exporting foreign currency from Kyrgyzstan includes amounts exceeding $5,000 for foreigners and more than $10,000 for citizens of the country. This incident serves as a reminder of the strict regulations in place to prevent illegal financial activities at the border.
