Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Speaker meets with Uzbekistan’s Senate Speaker

On 19th February, Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (Parliament), held a meeting with Tanzila Narbayeva, the Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Supreme Assembly) of Uzbekistan. Narbayeva had arrived in Azerbaijan to attend the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Baku.

She also praised Uzbekistan’s construction of a school in Azerbaijan’s liberated Fuzuli district as a symbol of the close relationship between the two nations.

Both speakers acknowledged the significance of parliamentary cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, with Gafarova highlighting the role of inter-parliamentary friendship groups in promoting cooperation.

Narbayeva, in turn, commended Azerbaijan’s achievements under President Aliyev’s leadership, acknowledging the global impact of its initiatives. She also praised the successful organization of the COP29 event and invited Azerbaijani delegates to the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held in Uzbekistan.

The speakers discussed the positive influence of the warm personal relations between the heads of the two states on parliamentary cooperation, citing language and cultural similarities as a strong foundation for further collaboration.
