Uzbekistan Aims to Lift 1.2 Million People Out of Poverty by 2025
In a recent meeting chaired by the president, Uzbekistan has set a ambitious goal to lift 1.2 million people out of poverty by the year 2025. The focus will be on improving education, healthcare, and living conditions for those in need. The meeting discussed the results of social protection initiatives and outlined key priorities for the upcoming years, with a strong emphasis on community development and support for disadvantaged groups.
The president introduced several new initiatives to combat poverty, including the establishment of family-run kindergartens in high-poverty neighborhoods. The goal is to have at least one family kindergarten in each of the 1,000 most disadvantaged areas by 2025. This move is part of a larger strategy to provide support to families in need, offer better educational opportunities, and enhance the quality of life for vulnerable communities.
Additionally, the government will be expanding vocational training, extracurricular activities, and healthcare services to assist those living in poverty. The creation of “First Development Centers” in Tashkent’s Toyloq and Kosonsoy districts has already benefited 4,200 children from poor families and those with disabilities by providing preschool education.
Local authorities have been instructed to replicate this successful model in other districts to ensure that more children in need have access to early childhood education. The Ministry of Preschool and School Education has been tasked with establishing functioning family kindergartens in each identified high-poverty neighborhood by 2025.
Starting from the new year, 15% of spots in family-run kindergartens will be reserved for children from low-income families. The government will also provide partial subsidies to cover tuition costs, guaranteeing that financial constraints do not hinder children from accessing early childhood education. Through these initiatives and continued efforts, Uzbekistan is working towards a brighter future for all its citizens.
