Uzbekistan Announces Development of Copper Industry Cluster by 2030

The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan has recently released a draft decision outlining the development of the copper industry cluster with the goal of creating multi-tiered value-added chains from raw materials to finished products by the year 2030.

The draft decision includes the approval of several key documents, including the concept of developing the copper industry cluster of Uzbekistan until 2030, a “Roadmap” for establishing a full-cycle technological chain for the production of high-value-added products from copper raw materials, targeted programs and performance indicators for processing copper raw materials, and the procedure for attracting investors to the cluster territory.

The implementation of this decision is expected to yield significant results by 2030, such as an annual copper production volume of 400,000 tons, with over 300,000 tons being processed industrially. The aim is to attract investments worth 1.5 billion dollars to enhance the localization of electrical and household appliance production, thereby increasing the total production volume to 8 billion dollars.

Furthermore, the cluster will attract both local and foreign investments in the production of finished and semi-finished copper products, with a target of achieving 80 percent copper processing indicators through various projects. Plans also include introducing localization for the production of new types of equipment and components necessary for the mining and metallurgy industry, as well as boosting the volume of exports of finished products and services with high added value.

Additionally, the initiative aims to establish a system for training and improving the qualifications of highly skilled personnel in the mining and metallurgy industry, and is projected to create over 10,000 new jobs through the establishment of new production capacities within the cluster.

Overall, the development of the copper industry cluster in Uzbekistan is poised to bring about significant economic growth and job opportunities in the country’s mining and metallurgy sector.
