Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan Leaders Meet for First Interstate Supreme Council Session
President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, visited Uzbekistan on a state visit, where he was warmly welcomed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The two leaders discussed deepening strategic partnerships and expanding cooperation between the two countries. They emphasized the rapid development of bilateral relations and the establishment of close links between various sectors.
During the visit, the leaders signed a Treaty on Union Relations and held the first session of the Interstate Supreme Council, aiming to promote multifaceted cooperation. They also agreed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year by preparing a program of events and launching a comprehensive program for economic cooperation.
The visit also resulted in the formation of a portfolio of promising projects worth over $2 billion in energy, chemistry, mining, textile, agriculture, and other sectors. The Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan investment company was highlighted as an effective means of supporting these projects.
The leaders discussed the importance of strengthening interdependence through infrastructural projects and increasing the number of flights between the two countries. They also agreed to enhance interregional cooperation, cultural exchanges, and sports collaborations.
Overall, the visit was aimed at boosting economic ties, promoting cultural exchanges, and strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. The leaders expressed their commitment to implementing the agreements reached and adopting a “roadmap” for future collaboration.
