Uzbekistan and Belarus Sign Agreements and Contracts Worth Over $1 Billion
The heads of state of Uzbekistan and Belarus have recently solidified their cooperation by signing agreements and contracts exceeding $1 billion in value. The two leaders, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Alexander Lukashenko, outlined priority areas for cooperation and committed to creating favorable conditions for transportation and the effective use of multimodal corridors leading to South Asia’s large markets.
In a series of negotiations conducted in both narrow and wide formats, the leaders expressed their commitment to continuing their political dialogue and mutual support within international structures, including the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). They also noted the positive pace of trade and economic cooperation, with trade turnover increasing by 15 percent in the past year and set a target to increase this figure to over $1 billion in the coming years.
To achieve this goal, the two governments have agreed to establish a joint foreign trade company, implement mechanisms supporting export-import supplies, and introduce an electronic system for product certification. They also committed to creating advantageous conditions for transportation, training international road carriers, and making efficient use of multimodal corridors leading to the large markets of South Asia.
During the negotiations, the state leaders identified key areas of cooperation, including agriculture, light, food and electrical technology industries, pharmaceuticals, urban development, and communications. Separate working groups will be formed for each direction of cooperation.
In addition to the economic aspects of cooperation, the two sides also praised the intensification of interregional exchanges. They highlighted the successful results of the second forum of the regions of Uzbekistan and Belarus, which concluded with the signing of contracts and agreements valued at over $1 billion.
Furthermore, the parties agreed to continue active cultural-humanitarian exchanges and to adopt programs for developing partnerships in higher and professional education, health care, culture, sports, and tourism.
To ensure the effective implementation of the agreements signed, the two countries have agreed to develop and adopt a joint “roadmap.”
The agreements and contracts signed between Uzbekistan and Belarus mark a significant step forward in their bilateral cooperation and are expected to further strengthen the ties between the two nations.
