Uzbekistan and China Collaborate on $200 Million Seed Production Complex in Tashkent Region

A new seed production center in Tashkent region is set to revolutionize agriculture with the use of drones and other advanced technologies for crop protection and harvesting. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev recently discussed plans to enhance international cooperation in agriculture, with a focus on a collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

The joint project aims to establish a seed production complex at the Agro-Service Center in the Yukorichirchik district of Tashkent region. Specialists at the center will work on developing new varieties of cotton, wheat, rice, corn, grapes, and fruit crops with the help of China’s expertise, attracting an anticipated $200 million in investments.

The complex will boast a model nursery with a complete cycle of seedling cultivation. Cutting-edge equipment, including drones, will be utilized for crop protection, harvesting, and processing. Moreover, Italian agricultural specialists will impart their knowledge through a partnership that includes training programs for 200 Uzbek students at universities in Italy.

The discussion also tackled dual education programs, which blend academic studies with practical work experience. Recent initiatives have sent students from Samarkand Agricultural Institute and the International University of Agriculture for training in Germany and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, Japanese language centers are being established at three universities to facilitate student internships in Japan, with plans to collaborate with other countries known for their advanced agro-industrial sectors.

With these partnerships and advancements in agricultural technology, Uzbekistan is poised to strengthen its position in the global agricultural landscape and improve sustainability and productivity in the sector.
