Uzbekistan and Malaysia Partner on Smart Agriculture and Drone Production

Uzbekistan and Malaysia Strengthen Legal Cooperation and Trade Relations
Uzbekistan and Malaysia have taken a significant step towards mutual legal cooperation in criminal cases, as confirmed by a recent statement from the Ministry of Justice. The agreement, ratified by the President of Uzbekistan, solidifies the commitment of both countries to assist each other in criminal matters.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s official visit to Malaysia in February further strengthened the ties between the two nations. High-level meetings and negotiations took place, paving the way for increased cooperation in various sectors.
One such area of collaboration is foreign trade, where the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Malaysia has seen a 36% increase, amounting to nearly $20 million since the beginning of the year. The trade relationship is characterized by Uzbekistan’s export of fruits, vegetables, and mineral fertilizers to Malaysia, while Malaysia exports vegetable oils, coffee, tea, spices, chemical industry products, and foodstuffs to Uzbekistan.
In the realm of technology and innovation, Uzbekistan and Malaysia have agreed to cooperate in smart agriculture technologies and drone manufacturing. Malaysian company Meraque Group has expressed interest in establishing a manufacturing enterprise in Uzbekistan, with plans to invest 20 million Malaysian ringgit to create 1,000 jobs and serve 100,000 hectares of agricultural land over the next three years. The company also aims to raise an additional 30 million ringgit to support technological advancements in the region.
Meraque, a leading robotics supplier in Malaysia with operations in several other countries, specializes in manufacturing drones and developing software solutions for them. This partnership signifies a significant opportunity for both countries to leverage cutting-edge technology for agricultural development.
Overall, the deepening cooperation between Uzbekistan and Malaysia across legal, trade, and technological spheres highlights the growing partnership between the two nations and sets a foundation for further collaboration in the future.
