
Uzbekistan and Spain Enhance Collaboration to Upgrade Drinking Water Systems

A delegation led by the acting chairman of JSC “Uzsuvta’minot,” Dilshod Azimov, visited Spain with the support of Uzbekistan’s Embassy in Madrid. During the visit, negotiations were held at the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Business, the Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX), and with leaders of companies such as Almar Water, IDOM, Hidroconta, and WEG.
At the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Business meeting, the Spanish side was briefed on the measures taken by the government of Uzbekistan to enhance drinking water and sewage systems. The Spanish side also discussed the possibility of providing grants for financing projects in Uzbekistan through the FIEM fund, aiming to develop public-private partnership projects involving Spanish companies.
Both parties agreed to collaborate on joint projects in the Samarkand region and Karakalpakstan. Additionally, a “round table” and B2B negotiations involving representatives of leading Spanish companies in the drinking water and wastewater sector were organized at the Institute of Foreign Trade in Madrid.
During the event, Spanish partners were provided with information on the sectoral reforms in Uzbekistan, the goals defined in the “Uzbekistan-2030” Strategy, and prospective projects. Following the meetings, agreements were reached with several Spanish companies to initiate investment and technological cooperation.
This visit marks a significant step towards strengthening ties between Uzbekistan and Spain in the field of water management and infrastructure development. It highlights the potential for fruitful collaboration and mutual benefit in addressing water-related challenges.
